TEXT Messaging SCAM

The Calaveras Superior Court has been made aware of an ongoing scam that uses fake text messages appearing to be sent by the Court or DMV that seek payment for unpaid traffic citations.

The Court and DMV does not and will not contact the public through text messages to make payments for traffic citations.

The public is cautioned not to provide financial or personal information If contacted via text or a phone call. The Court does not seek this information through texts or phone calls.

If you are unsure about having paid a traffic citation, please visit the Court’s website at Home | Superior Court of California | County of Calaveras and click on “Pay Fines.” From there, you will be directed to a site from which you may search and enter your corresponding information to see if there are any outstanding balances.

The small claims advisor for Calaveras County provides information and counseling to litigants and potential litigants concerning all aspects of the small claims court process, including case preparation, collection, venue, appeals and more. Court Clerks are not allowed to answer legal questions. All correspondence to the small claims court must contain the case number and show that a copy was sent to all parties in the case or it will be returned.
